AICTE Regulation on Establishment of Mechanism for Grievance Redressal

In order to ensure transparency in institutions imparting technical education, with the paramount objective of preventing unfair practices and to provide a mechanism to innocent students for redressal of their grievances, All India Council for Technical Education has made it mandatory for all of its affiliated engineering and management colleges to have an online grievance redressal mechanism to help the affected persons sort out their problems.
In most institutions, it’s seen that some grievances are addressed, some delayed and others not addressed. The new regulation was issued on reason that the non-registration of grievances on the institution's system results in more numbers being registered on the central government's pg. portal. AICTE considers this as an indication of the unsatisfactory working of the grievance redressal system in the respective institutions or organisation. Thus, the Council issued a circular on mandatory installation of the online system for grievance redressal with the vision of addressing all grievances in a time-bound manner. This will ensure transparency and students will be benefitted. Students will feel more confident and good institutes will get better branding with the establishment of grievance system.
As per the directive, each of these institutions will have to put up a notice board or flex board fixed near the office of the institute Head, giving details of the online grievance redressal mechanism including its URL, names, contact numbers and e-mail addresses of members of the grievance committee to assure students that help is at hand. For effective monitoring of the grievances, the Council has directed that the institutes need to submit online monthly status report regarding the number of grievances received, disposed of and the ones pending on the last day of the previous month. Also, at the time of renewal of their approval every year, the Council will take into account the performance of the online grievance tracker.
